WOLREC Executive Director, Maggie Kathewera Banda, last week attended a consultative Workshop on Piloting the Implementation of the African Union Accountability Framework for the Elimination of Harmful Practices in Nairobi, Kenya.

The African Union Commission, through its Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, organized the Workshop, which brought together representatives from AU Member States, Regional Economic Communities, and key stakeholders to discuss strategies for piloting the Accountability Framework at the national level.
The workshop which took place from 30th October to 1st November, further aimed to promote shared learning, strengthen coordination mechanisms, and enhance accountability in efforts to eliminate harmful practices affecting women and girls across the continent.
The engagement marked a significant step toward translating the AU’s policy commitments into concrete actions that protect the rights, dignity, and well-being of women and girls in Africa.
UNFPA is the lead partner in the six pilot countries of Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya in East Africa; Nigeria and Senegal in West Africa; and Zambia in Southern Africa.
