ROLE OF TRADITIONAL, RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND CHILDREN IN ENDING HARMFUL PRACTICES IN LUSAKA

WOLREC Executive Director, Maggie Kathewera Banda, is participating in a workshop on the Role of Traditional, Religious Leaders and Children in Ending Harmful Practices in Lusaka Zambia, from 27th to 30th May 2025. The workshop, which has been organized by the African Union Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with key partners, brings together stakeholders from Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Ghana. WOLREC, a partner of the African Union Commission in Ending Child Marriage, is contributing to the discussions through its Executive Director’s participation.

The workshop aims to strengthen child participation in ending harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM), while also equipping traditional and religious leaders with tools to support children’s rights at community level. Our Executive Director is participating as one of the moderators for the workshop, which has Key attendance by partners such as; UNICEF, World Vision, Plan International, the Government of Zambia, among others.
