Wolrec ED attends EEI regional convening in Eswatini

Our Executive Director, Maggie Kathewera Banda, this week attended a two-day East and Southern Africa External Engagement and Influencing (EEI) Regional Convening in Mbabane, Eswatini, under the What Works to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls programme.

The meeting focused on strengthening national-level advocacy and influence through the development and operationalization of National Advocacy Plans, while advancing regional strategy goals.


Discussions centred on:

• Amplifying Women’s Rights Organisations’ (WROs) leadership and visibility.

• Engaging governments and religious leaders to drive recognition and action

• Leveraging frameworks such as the AU Convention and SADC Handbook to secure political will and financing

• Integrating VAWG prevention into education and climate agendas

• Strengthening cross-country collaboration and shared advocacy strategies.


This engagement will help enhance evidence-based advocacy, refine regional messages, and align strategies to the evolving global political landscape — ensuring stronger, united action against violence towards women and girls across the region.


WOLREC, Girls Empowerment Network (Genet) and Human Rights for Women and Girls with Disabilities in Malawi - hrwgdm are imprementing a four and a half year Pamodzi Kuthetsa Nkhanza Perogramme with funding from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through What Works to Prevent Violence.
