PRE-ASSESSMENT OF THE ELECTORAL ENVIRONMENT

Yesterday, the Executive Director for WOLREC, Mrs. Maggie Kathewera Banda & the Programmes Manager for WOLREC, Charity Mazengera, had a meeting with officials from the African Centre for Governance (ACG), who are currently in Malawi to conduct a pre-assessment of the electoral environment.
The mission aims to evaluate the readiness of key institutions and stakeholders to ensure free, fair, and credible elections ahead of the upcoming polls on September 16.
As a women’s rights organization, WOLREC was invited to share critical insights into the challenges and barriers that women—both aspirants and voters—face in participating meaningfully in the electoral process.
The engagement highlighted the need for inclusive strategies that address gender-specific obstacles to political participation.
