Multi-stakeholder Conference on Women’s Political Participation

Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) Executive Director Maggie Kathewera Banda, is today moderating a multi-stakeholder conference on Women’s Political Participation, taking place in Lilongwe under the African Women Advancing Rights and Empowerment (AWARE) project.

Held under the theme "Contextual Understanding and Barriers to Women's Political Participation," the two-day conference aims to unpack the challenges women face in engaging with electoral processes.

The event was officially opened by Ms Patience Chiradza, Director of Governance and Conflict Prevention at the African Union Commission’s Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department (AUC-PAPS), and has brought together diverse stakeholders to explore actionable solutions for enhancing women’s political inclusion.

The GIZ-supported AWARE project works in collaboration with the African Union Commission’s Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (AUC-WGYD) and other partners, including women’s networks, to advance the implementation of continental commitments on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
