From Beijing to Now - Honoring Feminist Legacies and Leadership

Young women leaders, activists, and policymakers from across Africa, Asia, and beyond gathered in Salima to share experiences, strengthen solidarity, and reflect on feminist legacies shaping the future.
WOLREC Executive Director Maggie Kathewera Banda was among the attendees and participated in a panel discussion entitled "From Beijing to Now - Honoring Feminist Legacies and Leadership."
Organised by ActionAid, the Forum for Feminist Solidarity, Organizing and Leadership event sought to promote women’s rights and gender equality while marking 30 years since the historic Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
In 1995, 189 governments including Malawi, adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which recognized women's rights as human rights and created a blueprint for achieving gender equality.
