United Democratic Front (UDF) presidential candidate Atupele Muluzi has become the fifth presidential hopeful in the September 16 General Elections to sign the Women’s Manifesto commitment card.

Speaking during the event in Lilongwe, Muluzi pledged to support women’s rights and ensure gender integration in national development plans if elected into office.
He commended the initiative, stating that the Women’s Manifesto aligns with the UDF’s own manifesto, which places women at the centre of its agenda.
“Women make up the majority of voters; they have the power to shape Malawi’s future. UDF believes in inclusive governance,” he said.
WOLREC Executive Director and Women’s Manifesto Movement Coordinator Maggie Kathewera Banda highlighted the importance of political will in fulfilling the aspirations of Malawian women.
Last week, four presidential hopefuls signed the commitment, beginning with Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi and MCP presidential candidate; Dr. Joyce Banda, President of the People’s Party and former Head of State; Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, UTM Party presidential candidate; and Enock Chihana of AFORD.
The Women’s Manifesto Movement is being funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the European Union.
