Stakeholders in the childcare sector have convened in Blantyre for a two-day workshop to discuss key issues affecting the paid childcare sector in Malawi.

The meeting, organized by the World University Service of Canada - WUSC - Malawi in partnership with the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) has brought together various stakeholders, including childcare enterprise owners and childcare workers.

The main objective of the meeting is to disseminate the key findings of a baseline study conducted by NGO CCR Malawi under the Action for Paid Childcare Sector Transformation (ACT) project.

According to the findings, there is limited awareness of the legal, policy, and regulatory frameworks that govern the childcare sector. While Malawi has some laws and policies related to childcare, they are generally silent or not explicit on issues concerning paid childcare services.

The workshop has also presented findings from a childcare providers mapping and curriculum review study, which aims to promote inclusivity and quality in childcare services.

The ACT project is being implemented in Lilongwe and Blantyre, with funding from Global Affairs Canada.
