Nsanje District Gender Officer Edson Njembe has hailed the capacity-building training on Gender Transformative Programming organized by the Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) in Blantyre.
Njembe said the training will stir duty-bearers to formulate strategies that will help support and empower women economically and politically in their respective areas.
He was speaking in an interview in Blantyre, on the sidelines of a two-day transformative training session for 90 district council staff from Mulanje, Machinga, and Nsanje.
These are among the seven districts under the Promoting Gender Transformative and Youth Inclusive Democracy in Malawi project, led by Oxfam and funded by the European Union.
According to Njembe, with adequate training, duty-bearers working at the grassroots level will be better equipped to push for gender mainstreaming in various areas and support programmes aimed at empowering women.
