PROJECT PERIOD : 2022 - 2024

IMPACT AREAS : MWANZA, NENO & BALAKA

PROJECT TITLE:

GBV Service Mozambique-Malawi (MOMA) Transmission Interconnection Project

WORLD BANK ESCOM

Women’s Legal Resources Centre (WOLREC) implemented the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in an inter-power connection project between Malawi and Mozambique (MOMA) funded by the World Bank.

The role of WOLREC was to provide Gender Based Violence (GBV) services which entails working on prevention and response on GBV, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Trafficking in Persons, and Violence against Children cases which may arise due to influx of workers into the areas where the inter-connection lines will be passing through in Mwanza, Neno and Balaka districts.

The project initially ran from November 2022 to December 2023 but implementation period was extended to June 2024.

Objectives

To work with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure Integration of Issues of Gender Based Violence, Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Trafficking in Persons, and Violence against Children in Grievance Redress Mechanism.
Remove duplication of efforts on cases which may arise.

Ensure timely reporting and handling of cases.
Visibility of cases as each stakeholder is obliged to report on any cases that they may come across. This would also ensure that all cases were handled appropriately.

Provide Survivor centered care as each stakeholder takes part in ensuring that appropriate services have been offered to the survivor of GBV and other forms of violence.
